The Thin Blue Line

– The Thin Blue Line –

My Brothers and Sisters Bleed Blue

The phrase “Thin Blue Line” represents Law Enforcement as all there is between order and chaos, anarchy and civilization, decency and lawlessness. It is the symbol showing Law Enforcement’s duty to protect people through the power of the law. It symbolizes pride and respect for the officers working in this dangerous profession.

Throughout the United States, police officers come from both sexes and every race and religion. Cops identify with the profession and with the department where they work. They are a brotherhood (and sisterhood) that is BLUE.

The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
John 10:10 KJV

Law Enforcement aims to protect life and property, thus giving many a sense of “mission,” meaning that what they do in life matters. It is a profession that is very rewarding and fulfilling. The Law Enforcement profession is a God-ordained role that deserves respect. Being a Police Officer is not for everyone; it is a calling, with some becoming cops because of the excitement of the job. After all, what other job gives you a front-row seat to the “Greatest Show on Earth?”

Law Enforcement Officers are given a great deal of responsibility; wearing the uniform and putting on the badge is a privilege. Not being just any job, Law Enforcement is a profession that demands honor and integrity. Unfortunately, Law Enforcement today is filled with spiritual darkness. The moral compass for many has gone astray. Not all Police Officers are honest, and they know how to manipulate the system. Some believe the rules do not apply to them.

Law Enforcement Officers are given the power to control people and the authority to enforce the laws of their jurisdiction. They are servants who must protect and serve. It is the only occupation where they are expected to give their lives for the community they serve.

Cops have seen and experienced violent physical and sexual crimes against the innocent, including children and infants. They have witnessed horrifying incidents caused by carelessness, including industrial, automobile, train, and airplane accidents. They have also experienced sadness, comforting those whose loved one has died, and the grief associated as they tried to help those needing food, clothing, or shelter.

Law Enforcement Officers are under intense pressure; they wear many hats and are expected to execute their jobs flawlessly. They face new ethical issues every day, and it is up to them to handle the issues properly. It is a profession with some of the highest rates of divorce, alcoholism, and suicide. Today’s Police Officer is at risk of falling prey to Satan, becoming angry, lustful, greedy, and hateful.

Law Enforcement – A God-Ordained Profession

According to the scripture, the Pastorate and Law Enforcement are the only two occupations ORDAINED by God. Therefore, Police Officers are engaged in a God-ordained calling to protect the people who cannot defend themselves and be a TERROR to the EVIL that preys on the defenseless without consequence.

The Bible tells us:

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. 2 Timothy 3:16-17.

Therefore, God ordains Police Officers:

Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy. Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked. Psalm 82:3-4

Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work, To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men. Titus 3:1-2

Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow. Isaiah 1:17

Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and overall the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Luke 10:19

Also, I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me. Isaiah 6:8

To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace. Luke 1:79

The words written by the Apostle Paul, referring to Police Officers, are the words of God.

For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. Romans 13:4.

What the Apostle Paul wrote to the Romans 2,000 years ago still applies today. The authorities (Police) are to be respected; they are here for the people’s good and to preserve Law and Order:

For rulers are not a terror to good works but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same. Romans 13:3.

A Christian working in Law Enforcement is doing something Godly and honorable. Christian cops have a better understanding of the people they serve; they see people, not statistics, and know that everyone is not a criminal. Christian cops exemplify faithful service to the neighborhoods they protect. The restraint of evil in society is one of the most important jobs of every Police Officer; it is a dangerous job, a moral calling, and a position consistent with a biblical passion for justice and righteousness.

The Thin Blue Line – We Fight Evil

“[Law enforcement officials] are that God-ordained institution that He’s set up to be the backbone of our society. …

The hour’s never been more urgent to just pour into these individuals and thank them and encourage them that what they’re doing is so significant.”
